Grassroots Heroes Awards 2024 - The Bobby Moore Award

London FA are proud to announce that the winner of The Bobby Moore Award (sponsored by Panini) for the 2024 Grassroots Heroes Awards is David Wolff!

David Wolff is League Chairman for Maccabi (Southern) GB Football League and has been since 1970, overseeing the organisation of the league and regular matchday visits to see all teams associated. In the 54 years he has led the league, he has overseen and facilitated tens of thousands of their community cohesion and playing of football.

wolffDavid’s football journey started in the late 1950s as a member of Ivri Maccabi Youth League and is an enthusiastic supporter of West Ham, having also been asked to manage the clubs U16 team. He joined the MSFL Management Committee in December 1963 as Assistant Secretary before becoming Vice Chairman in 1965 before taking on the role of Chairman in 1970, seeing the league grow from one division with 12 teams to a peak of 66 teams. David has also served on the National Maccabi Football Committee, first as Secretary and then as Chairman from 1976 to 2000, organising the Peter Morrisson Trophy and the National Junior Competitions for U11s, U13s and U16s. From 1990-1993, David was Sports Director of Maccabi GB and has attending nearly all of the Maccabi European Games. 

David was appointed President of London FA in 2022, having served the association faithfully since 1970. He started as Council Member and was recently appointed as a Life-Vice-President, following the governance changes in 2019. He has also been a long-standing member of the Cups Committee and has also served on the Finance Committee, Disciplinary Committees and Benevolent Fund. In 2018 he worked as part of a small group to agree a set of governance reforms to modernise the London FA, changes which have been transformative for the association.

David has touched the lives of the Jewish community through his involvement in Jewish sport and has been an integral member of the London FA for many years. His longevity and continued lust for life. It’s the most important thing to him after all these years and he still gets great joy in getting out and about to watch the teams play each week. David has an unmatched passion for grassroots football and always put that first, before any of his own personal interests. He is hugely balanced, calm and fair and brings vast experience to his role at London FA.
