Black History Month Cup

Black History Cup back for 2024

As part of Black History Month 2024 celebrations, London FA have continued their commitment to the London Vets Ballerz Black History Cup.

The Black History Cup was an idea conceived by Conrad from Jamrock FC & Ben Cascoe from LSU FC when they came together to want to celebrate Black History Month better within the grassroots football community.

As a result, they brought together the Black History Cup for the first time in 2022, which had 8 teams from London participating. Last year, the cup grew to 16 veteran clubs and 8 open age clubs, coming from all areas of London as well as a tournament division in Kent.

This year, they aim to go bigger and better, hosting the cup finals at the iconic St Georges Park on Saturday 19th October 2024! This came about after the challenges of obtaining a venue for the final last year, in which Middlesex FA had to support. FA Coach Development Officer Pete Augustine hosted a Black History Month Coaching event at SGP last year so discussion began about holding the finals in a primary venue which will be a great spectacle for all the participants. Thanks to the support from Pete, London FA, and the cups other sponsors, SPJ Contracting and SeakAid, the Black History Cup finals moved to SGP!

The finals will be:

Black History Cup Super Vets (10:15am KO)
AFC Richmond vs Windrush FC

Black History Cup 35+ Vets (12:30pm KO)
Belstone FC vs Herne Bay

Black History Cup Open Age (14:35pm KO)
Hayes End Athletic vs London South United

Neil Fowkes, London FA Coach Education Coordinator, said the following about the collaboration, “The London FA are pleased to be involved in the BHM Cup and to provide an opportunity for all involved in the teams centred around the celebration of Black History at the culmination of the finals to be held at St Georges Park to showcase the culture and history. I am thankful for Conway Blake (Tournament organiser) and Pete Augustine (FA) in making this happen and wish all the finalists the best of luck and to enjoy the occasion.”

A big thank you to SeakAid for completing the artwork and producing the programme for the event. SeakAid’s core mission is to identify and distribute sports kit and equipment to socially disadvantaged children and young people in the UK, as well as education support and resources.
